Number 1429: Jet Powers and the interplanetary war

In June I showed a continued story from ME’s Jet # 3 and #4 (1951).* I mentioned at the time there was another continued story started in #3 and finished in #4. It was the first time I’d seen that. In the first two issues of Jet the continuations were within the issue.

“Interplanetary War” has Jet interceding in a war on Mars. Jet, being a very resourceful guy and way ahead of other Earth people, has his own rocket ship. It allows him to travel to the red planet...in two days!

“Interplanetary War” and “The Fleets of Fear” are written by Gardner Fox and drawn by Bob Powell and his staff.

Number 1385: Jet Powers’ apocalyptic tale

Jet #3 did something I don’t think I’ve ever seen a comic do before; it began two separate cliffhangers in that issue, and completed them in #4 (the final issue). So what I’m doing today is showing both parts of the first serial from consecutive issues, and the second two-parter I’ll show at some point in the future.

I’ve shown these scans before a few years ago, and it’s time to dust them off (ho-ho) and show them again, improved from their last appearance.

Number 1290: New Year’s Eve with Jet Powers

Closing out 2012, and staying in the ’50s science fiction mood we’ve set the last couple of days, here are the final two Jet Powers stories from Jet #2, 1951.

They're drawn by the Bob Powell studio and written by Gardner Fox. You Su Shan fans will be happy to know that Su Shan is featured prominently in “House of Horror.” The lead story for the issue can be found at Pappy's #1257.

Tonight, while others revel (for whatever reasons people revel when greeting a new year, which is just a date on the calendar, folks), if past is an indication, I shall be rattling off snores to offset the midnight sounds of my neighbors shooting off fireworks or banging pots. That doesn't mean I won't wish you a happy new year, but be careful and we'll all get back together here on January 2.
