Had the Captain Marvel stories of the Golden Age been printed or reprinted during the first five or six years in which I was reading comic books, I would have been too concerned by the loose ends to have enjoyed them.
Although Superman and the Batman killed in some of their early appearances, and the Batman specifically killed a pair of vampyres in late 1939, I don't believe that, in 1946, Superman or Batman could have killed a vampyr, because of their adopted codes-against-killing. Inderf, because National spought to project an image of wholesomeness, if a vampyr appeared at all, then he or she would have to have been destroyed by his or her own misstep.
The illustration produced by the Beck studio is as if directed at a younger audience, but the stories of the Marvel Family featured the homicidal undead more than once, and the Marvels simply destroyed them.
Hah! The first thing i thought about was "Love at first bite", but just because I'm old, as the dumb bloodsucker bears no resemblance to George Hamilton.
With a little afterthought, the real reference is to the infamous (but quite funny) "Sundown, the vampire in retreat" with David Carradine, where remorseful vampires try to develope artificial human blood.
"I want that invention because with it, I can make millions and [thus] become the rightful ruler of the universe!" How simple and brilliant Sivana's vision is!
Poor Beardo Vampire ... tried hard, but all "in vein" (this is a Bruce Campbell's pun from "Sundown").
