Number 410

Origin of Blackhawk
retold

I noticed the campaign poster on page 2 of this retelling of the origin of Blackhawk:

PEOPLE OF VALNADIA
ELECT ME
DICTATOR

OR I SHALL BRING
DESTRUCTION

AND HAVOC!

Now that is a snappy campaign slogan!

The story is from Blackhawk #71, December 1953. Dick Dillin and Chuck Cuidera did the artwork. The were kept on as the art team after DC bought the characters from Quality Comics and began publishing in 1957.

Wow. No wonder the Communists eventually lost the Cold War. They couldn't even figure out how much better an idea it would have been to use plastic surgery on all their loyal comrades to look like some beloved leader of that country's past returned to life, and ready to lead them back to glory. Silly communists.
