I was going to make a comment about Supermouse and the 800-pound gorilla...but in this story, "The Great Gorilla Plot," that gorilla looks like he weighs more than 800 pounds. A lot more.
This entry in the Supermouse series by the great cartoonist, Milt Stein, is from Supermouse #22, December 1952. This is the character that forced the creation of Mighty Mouse: he was originally named Supermouse as well, but when Thomas Terry of the Terrytoons studio learned of this Supermouse, he was forced to use the name Mighty Mouse instead and to change the name "Super Mouse" to Mighty Mouse" on all of the earlier Super Mouse cartoons.
I've said this before: I don't know how they got away with Supermouse, with his Superman lookalike costume. DC, suing anyone they thought was infringing on their copyrights, must've thought a funny animal version of Superman wasn't worth the trouble, not like their long time suit against Captain Marvel (who had a bunny as his funny animal version).
Old McDonald had a farm
ReplyDeleteEe-eye-ee-eye-oh!
And on his farm he had an ape
Ee-eye-ee-eye-oh!
With a "Yurkle yurkle" here
And a "Grockle Glockle" there
Here a "Yurkle" there... a...
"Grock...."
Hey wait a minute. That's not how a gorilla goes.
Ah, more Soupie tales. Lover-ly stuff by Stein!
