Number 333
The Conscientious Klepto
Our girlfriend, Lady Danger, is back. As with the other two Lady Danger stories, shown in Pappy's #254 and Pappy's #302, our pretty young heroine is drawn by Bob Oksner, this time with inks by Bernard Sachs. The story is from Sensation Comics #86, February 1949.
Valerie Vaughn, Lady Danger, was one cute but tough tootsie! She could kick butt with the best of them. Unlike Wonder Woman, who was the headliner in Sensation Comics, Lady Danger depended on martial arts skills and smarts, not Amazonian-style super heroics.
She dressed well, too. I love the slacks and the high heels with the puffball on them. They look especially good buried in some bad guy's crotch when she turns him into a tenor.
Valerie Vaughn is va-va voom.
Hey Pappy, your links all contain an extra

making them "404 File not Found" when I click on them. Of course, because I make this sort of mistake all the time on my own blog, I was able to figure it out and get to the pages anyway (great story); but I thought I'd drop you a note and you could fix 'em all pretty easily. Then, of course, you can feel free to delete this comment, too.
Until then, passersby can find the pages here:
Page One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight.
Thanks for the Oksner/Lady Danger one-two today, Pappy.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a nice nod goes out to Mr. Cavin for the assist.
I can't believe that DC has let this character slide. They could have worked her into their Earth 2 concept at some point .... couldn't they?
Mr C., yup, errors are possible, but I'm scratching my head over these. I appreciate you letting me know. I hope they're fixed by now on the main screen.
ReplyDeleteChuck, Lady Danger is really a fine and fun character, but I prefer to leave her back in the 1940s. In most fiction, movies and comics of the era females were depicted as weak or dependent. I love this character for her ass-kicking qualities.
These Lady Danger escapades are so much fun and of course the art is just super. Story on this one is just a tad bit frustrating though as the crooks have obviously cooked up the stupidest scheme ever for robbing stores. I mean, it probably sounded good in theory or on paper but anytime you add a respected super detective / reporter into your scheme you gotta know it's gonna backfire at some point. Still, this is the kind of numbskull buffoonery we love so much about these golden age classics. Always looking forward to more Valerie Vaughn Paps!
ReplyDeleteAlso, links on the main page are working fine now, at least for me they are.
ReplyDeleteI would never buy Sensation Comics, as I hate Wonder Woman, but if there are any more hidden treasure such as this one in those books, I/m up for more. Isn't there supposed to be a Krigstein story somewhere as well?
ReplyDeleteShe's got a Kate Hepburn vibe.
