The Horrors of It All is showing Ace horror stories. I have some he doesn't, and vice versa. Here's a neat werewolf story, "Beast Of Skeleton Island," featuring not one but two beastly critters. This is courtesy of
Web Of Mystery #13 (1952). Art is attributed by the Grand Comics Database to Lou Cameron.
I love a good werewolf story. I like the idea of running around in the woods at night biting people. Rowff! A doctor was examining me with my shirt off and said, "You are a hairy devil, aren't you?" My response was, "Especially when the moon is full."
Awooooooooooo!
Not that it's any less dangerous, but there's something amusing about a blond werewolf. Or this one, anyway.

ReplyDeleteNot exactly what my first thought would be in the same situation, but then I'm more of a degenerate than a lycanthrope.
Wow, what wild art here! The souls in the flames, Harle in his gravity-defying runner's stance on pg 3, and the wonderfully creepy panel on the last page with the woman's corpse, face covered by the newspaper! Wicked!
ReplyDeleteLove the dual werewolf tale, and the creature art. And I have to say, the ponytailed mamma is KICKIN' on the next to last page!
Wonderful stuff, Pappy!
Seems that Harle's lycan urges erupted more from being around all the hot stockinged women than an actual hunger to consume human flesh. Good tale Paps, maybe it could have used another page to really enhance that final werewolf battle but I still... uh oh! My hands!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautifully, creepily drawn story (powerfully colored too--). Any ideas about who drew it?
